Bhubaneswar: Two doctors from Odisha went missing in the devastating landslide that took place on the late night of Monday in Kerala. The wives of both the doctors, however, were rescued and admitted to a temporary medical centre in Kerala.

The family of the missing doctors appealed to the state government to rescue them.

Dr. Bishnu Prasad Chinra, a resident of Chodwar, his wife Priyadharini Pal and friend Dr. Swadhin Panda and wife Swikruti Mohapatra left Bengaluru for an outing on July 26. From there, they went to Kerala’s Waynad. They were staying in Linara Villa. Unfortunately, landslides occurred in Meppadi, Mundakkai Town and Chooral Mala hill areas on Monday night. After the landslide, mud water flooded various populated areas in the locality.

Dr. Chinara’s father Pramod Kumar said, the area where they were staying was flooded with water at 2 am on Monday. Since then, Bishnu Prasad and his friend have remained untraced. His wife Priyadharshini was rescued and admitted to the hospital. Pramod said that they talked to their daughter-in-law on Tuesday morning.

Dr. Swdhin Panda who went with Dr. Bishnu is also missing in the disaster. Swadhin’s wife Swikruti is also undergoing treatment at the medical center, said Pramod Chinra.

Meanwhile, the State government is in contact with the local administration in Kerala and is collecting updates.

The Office of the Chief Minister mentioned on ‘X’ that the State Government is in constant touch with the Kerala Government in view of the massive loss of lives due to the landslides in Waynad, Kerala. According to information received from the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, two rescued Odia individuals are under medical treatment and two are missing.

As per the instructions of the state government, the concerned district administration is meeting the families of the affected people and updating them about the status, the CMO wrote on X.
