Bhubaneswar: An elderly man was injured after being shot at by an unknown poacher in a forest at Janakpur village under Thakurgada police station in Angul district on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Dhruba Naik, sustained bullet injuries on the left leg

Dhruba went to the forest this morning to collect mushrooms. While collecting mushrooms near a bush, a poacher mistook him as a wild animal and opened fire at him.

The bullet hit Dhruba’s left leg. He screamed out of pain. The poacher, after hearing his scream, fled the spot.

Fellow villagers who had gone to the forest to collect mushrooms rushed to the spot and rescued Dhruba in critical condition.

Later, he was admitted to Athamallik Government Hospital from where he was shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital.
