Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has joined as the Chief Guest at the International Conference on Hunger Free World: Professor M.S. Swaminathan’s Vision for an Evergreen Revolution’ at M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) in Chennai. The conference is being held on August 7th and 8th.

Prof MS Swaminathan was the harbinger of the Green Revolution in India. Under his leadership, India ushered in Green Revolution in the field of agriculture. His main aim was to make the world hunger-free. This international conference has been organised in memory of Prof MS Swaminathan’s contribution in the field of agriculture.

According to an official press release, in his opening speech, Deputy CM Singh Deo said that Odisha is a state prone to natural disasters.

Singh Deo said that small and marginal farmers can benefit by going for climate-resilient agriculture.

By diversifying agriculture or growing more than one crop at a time, the world can be made free from hunger, he said.

By increasing the consumption of traditional foods, small farmers, especially, in tribal areas can benefit and be financially sound. Similarly, reducing food waste can make the world hunger-free much faster, he added.

On this occasion, Singhdeo unveiled the new logo of the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation.

Later, he released the Impact Report 2023-24 booklet of M S Swaminathan Research Foundation along with launching a nutrition program.

He also launched a book titled ‘M S Swaminathan’s Conversations With Nitya Rao, A Farmer’ which dwells on a farmer’s malnutrition-free India campaign.

In this conference, organically produced cereals and food products produced by agriculture and tribals from different parts of Odisha such as Mandia, Suan, and Bajra of Koraput were exhibited. Many experts and scientists from different states and abroad are attending this conference.
