Bhubaneswar: In a move to end the ongoing potato crisis, the Odisha Government has decided to procure potatoes through NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd) and supply them to consumers at Rs 30 per kg.
The move will ease the potato crisis and make the tuber available to all consumers at an affordable price, said Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.
An order has been placed through NAFED for 300MT of potatoes in the first phase. It will be available in the state by next weekend, he added.
In the first phase, it will be available through government retail shops in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur, Patra informed.
The Minister has directed the department officials to take necessary steps in this regard.
