Bhubaneswar: A 37-year-old man was severely injured in a bear attack at Chapalpada village under Khairput block in Malkangiri district on Monday.
The injured has been identified as Shyam Sisa, a resident of Chapalpada village.
As per reports, Shyam was busy working in his paddy field in the jungle when he was ambushed by the bear.
In a valiant bid to save himself, Shyam engaged in a fierce battle with the wild bear, managing to hold off the attack for several minutes. Tragically, the bear inflicted severe injuries, gouging out Shyam’s eyes in the process.
As Shyam cried out for help, local villagers rushed to his aid and chased the bear away. However, due to the remote location and lack of road connectivity, the ambulance was unable to reach the village.
Finding no other go, the villagers had to carry Shyam for 15 kilometres to reach the ambulance, which then took him to the Khairaput Community Health Center.
As his condition worsened, he was later shifted to the Koraput District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
