Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government spent a whopping Rs 247.36 crore on distributing jute bags across the State ahead of the 2024 general elections, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra revealed in the Assembly on Wednesday.
In response to a question from Jagatsinghpur MLA Amarendra Das, Patra disclosed that the government had incurred significant expenses on manufacturing and distributing jute bags in all constituencies of Odisha.
Furthermore, the government provided financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to each household, totaling Rs 959.05 crore.
However, the Minister clarified that there is no provision for providing jute bags and financial assistance to those who have not received them yet, indicating that the scheme has been discontinued.
