Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will undertake an aerial survey of the flood situation in Balasore district on Wednesday. Majhi will take a helicopter ride from the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar to Balasore at 9:30 am.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to visit Baliapal and Bhograi by air. After the aerial survey, he will land at the temporary helipad at Padmavati Park at 11:00 am and hold a discussion with senior administrative officials on the flood situation. Balasore District Collector and SP along with other officials will be present.

Several areas in Balasore district, including Baliapal, Bhograi, Jaleshwar and Basta blocks, are submerged under the flood waters of Subarnarekha river. The water levels in the Bhudhabalang and Jalaka rivers in the district are also rising.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government on Tuesday put the Balasore district administration on high flood alert after water of river Subarnarekha entered over 250 villages in five block areas. So far, the local administration has evacuated over 400 people to safer places after flood water entered low-lying areas of Bhograi, Jaleswar, Basta, Baliapal and Sadar blocks.

According to a preliminary assessment, 264 villages in 56 gram panchayat and 17 wards in Jaleswar municipality have been affected by the flood.
