Bharatpur Police Station IIC Among Three Cops Transferred Over Alleged Assault On Indian Army Officer & His Fiancée

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police took a tough stand against Bharatpur police station Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) and two other cops by transferring them to ensure a fair investigation into the allegation of ‘assault and arrest’ of an Indian Army officer of Sikh Regiment Major Gurvansh Singh and his fiancé at the police station.

As per the notification issued by the Commissionerate Police, Bharatpur police station IIC Dinakrushna Mishra has been transferred and posted to the office of DCP, Bhubaneswar. Similarly, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Salilamayee Sahoo of Bharatpur police station has been transferred and posted to the office of DCP, Bhubaneswar while Constable Balaram Hansda has been transferred and posted to RO Bhubaneswar.

The transfers were ordered by the Commissionerate Police following Director General of Police YB Khurania’s directive for a Crime Branch probe into the allegations.

According to the allegations, Major Singh and his fiancée were assaulted by on-duty police officers of Bharatpur police station when they visited the police station to file a complaint about a road rage incident.

It’s reported that miscreants waylaid the Army Major and his fiancée and misbehaved with them when driving a car. When they went to the police station to report the incident, they were allegedly mistreated and assaulted by the police instead of being helped.

On Monday, a five-member team of Crime Branch CID visited the Bharatpur Police Station to probe into the charges levelled by the Army Major against the Bharatpur Police Station IIC and the other two cops.

Acting on the directive of Odisha DGP YB Khurania, Additional DGP CID/Crime Arun Bothra deputed DSP Narendra Kumar Behera to investigate the case.

It’s worth noting that Bharatpur IIC Dinakrushna Mishra had previously dismissed similar allegations, claiming that the complainants were intoxicated and misbehaved with staff.
