IMD Issues Yellow Warning For Heavy Rain In 10 Odisha Dists Today

Bhubaneswar: Even as vast areas of Balasore continue to reel under flood, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rain for 10 districts of Odisha on Thursday and Friday.

According to the weather office, several parts of Odisha will experience rain along with thunderstorms and lightning activities on these two days. The yellow warning has been issued for Bargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Sonepur, and Sambalpur.

Meanwhile, heavy rain is likely to lash north Odisha from September 22 under the influence of a fresh low-pressure area over north-west Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal. The wet spell is likely to continue till September 24 and worsen the flood situation in Balasore and Mayurbhanj.

The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has, meanwhile, said that the water level of Subarnarekha and Jalaka rivers in Balasore is flowing above the danger mark but decreasing gradually decreasing. Baliapal, Basta and Bhograi blocks in the district have been worst affected by floods. Six blocks of the district have been affected by the flood, while 35,654 people of 141 villages have been affected. So far, 11,632 people have been evacuated from the flood-affected area and have been sheltered at various places.
