Bhubaneswar: Odisha DGP YB Khurania on Thursday directed the police to register a case against hooligans who allegedly assaulted Major Gurvansh Singh of the 22 Sikh Regiment and his fiancée Ankita Pradhan in Bhubaneswar on the night of September 14.
The DGP categorically said, “All wrongdoers will be identified and strict action will be taken against them.”
The DGP’s remarks came a day after he suspended five police officers, including the IIC, of Bharatpur police station, for gross misconduct following allegations of custodial assault on and molestation threat to the Army officer’s fiancée.
The couple had gone to police station to seek action against the hooligans who harassed them but were allegedly brutally attacked by the cops at Bharatpur police station.
On the night of September 14, the Bharatpur Police had issued a statement claiming that the Major and his fiancée reached the police station around 3.00 am to lodge a complaint against the hooligans. When the woman sub-inspector on duty asked them to file a written complaint, they got irked and attacked the police personnel. The Army officer was released after allegedly being detained in the lockup for over 10 hours but his fiancée was arrested for creating fracas and attacking a woman cop.
