Baripada: A local court on Saturday sentenced a man to rigorous imprisonment for life and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 after convicting him for raping a minor girl.
The Fast Track Special Court, Baripada awarded rigorous imprisonment for life to Kamal Lochan Singh alias Chhota (35) of Nua Sahi of Deulia panchayat under Badasahi police limits after convicting him for raping a minor girl in 2019.
The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Singh. Upon failure to pay the fine Singh has to undergo imprisonment for one more year, the court has ruled in its order.
The court has ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the victim.
According to the details of the case, on 15 January, 2019 Singh on finding the victim alone asked her to come with him under the pretext of buying her a packet of biscuit.
Singh raped the minor girl in a forest near her home. The minor girl narrated her ordeal to her family. The victim’s family lodged a written complaint in this connection at Badasahi police station.
The police after recording the statement of the victim arrested Singh and forwarded him to court.
