Bhubaneswar: Odisha is facing a potential cyclone threat as a low-pressure area has formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the adjacent North Andaman Sea.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this system is expected to move west-northwest and may strengthen into a depression by the morning of October 22 and possibly become a cyclonic storm named ‘Dana’ by October 23.

In response to this threat, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari stated that Odisha is prepared to handle the situation.

He noted, “Odisha is prepared to handle the situation. The people of Odisha have faced cyclones, floods, and other natural disasters in the past, and the government is ready to respond effectively.”

Emphasising the government’s ongoing efforts, “We are continuously assessing the situation and coordinating with various officials, including district magistrates and the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), to ensure everyone is informed about the cyclone’s potential impact.”

Minister Pujari also announced, “A meeting is scheduled for today at 6.00 pm with all relevant departments, including Health, Agriculture, and the emergency services, to strategise on how to support the people of Odisha.”

He reassured the residents, “We will implement necessary measures in all districts under red and yellow warnings, as well as less affected areas. Stay alert, but there’s no need to panic. The administration is committed to working around the clock until the storm has passes. Government officials will be on duty 24/7 to address any issues that may arise.”
