Cyclone Dana Preparedness: Five NDRF Teams Arrive In Bhubaneswar From Bhatinda

Bhubaneswar: As the Odisha government gears up to ensure ‘zero casualty’ during the impending Cyclone Dana, five teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) reached Bhubaneswar from Bathinda in Punjab on Tuesday night to assist the local disaster response teams.

The five NDRF teams comprise 152 members, including women, and they will be deployed in five vulnerable districts – Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Jajpur.

Meanwhile, 288 rescue teams have been deployed in 13 districts of Odisha to deal with Cyclone Dana. Of them 19 are NDRF teams, 51 ODRF teams, 178 Fire Services teams and 40 additional Fire Services teams. Three NDRF teams and six ODRAF teams have been deployed in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur district each.

Mayurbhanj has a maximum of 38 teams including 2 NDRF, 6 ODRF, 26 Fire Services and 4 additional Fire Services teams. In addition, rescue teams have been deployed in Ganjam, Puri, Cuttack, Khurda, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Nayagarh districts. One NDRF, 9 Fire Services and 20 additional Fire services teams have been kept in reserve.

Odisha DGP YB Khurania reviewed the preparedness of the rescue operations on Tuesday and directed all SPs to make efforts to implement the state government’s ‘zero casualty’ mission. Khurania also directed that police should be deployed in the storm shelters and marine police to alert people on the beaches. All police officers have been directed to sensitize the public in the coastal areas.
