Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic storm Dana over the east-central Bay of Bengal has intensified, moving north-westwards at a speed of 15 kmph over the past six hours. As a result, several districts in Odisha have begun experiencing rainfall, with more severe weather conditions expected in the coming days.
As per the latest information provided by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) & thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri and Ganjam.
For October 24, the regional weather office has issued red warnings to Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts. These districts are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall.
The weather office has issued an orange warning to Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri on October 24. These districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Besides, a yellow warning has been issued to Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. These districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm).
“Scattered heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak”, read the IMD alert for October 25.
For Friday, IMD also issued an orange alert to Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts. These districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm).
That apart, the IMD forecast heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) at isolated places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Khurda, and Puri on Friday.
For October 26, IMD’s prediction reads: “Heavy to very heavy rainfall(7 to 20cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh and heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Jharsuguda.”
