Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi personally called ASHA worker Shivani Mandal from the Rajnagar Community Health Center (CHC) in Kendrapara district over telephone today.
The Chief Minister commended Shivani for displaying extraordinary dedication and humanity during the Cyclone Dana which hit Odisha coast past midnight on Thursday.
Shivani took it upon herself to ensure the safe evacuation of Khasamunda village residents, moving them to the cyclone shelter before the storm intensified.
When an elderly, paralyzed woman was unable to reach the shelter due to heavy rain, Shivani carried her on her back for a kilometer and a half, inspiring many with her commitment.
During the telephonic conversation the Chief Minister came to know that over the course of the day, Shivani had managed to carry a total of seven adults and two pregnant women to safety.
Expressing his heartfelt appreciation, the Chief Minister stated that both the government and he personally were deeply moved by her selfless actions. He conveyed, “May Lord Jagannath bless you always. May you continue to help others in times of need.”
Inquiring further, the Chief Minister learned that Shivani lacked a house. He immediately directed the Rajnagar Block Development Officer (BDO) to provide her with housing and promised additional support to recognize her invaluable service.
