Puri: Three persons, including a woman, sustained critical burn injuries in a firecracker explosion at Bata village under Puri Sadar Police station.
The injured youths, Gula Rout and Sanjay Jena, were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after receiving primary treatment at Puri district Headquarters Hospital. The transfer was necessary due to the lack of a burn unit at the district hospital. Two of the victims suffered 80 percent burns.
According to the city DSP Prasant Kumar Sahoo, “We received information that three persons, including a woman, were admitted at Puri DHH with burn injuries. We referred them to a higher hospital after preliminary treatment. Our focus now is on their treatment. We will investigate the matter later.”
The incident occurred when the victims visited a house where firecrackers were being sold. The explosives were being sold by the husband of one Lipa Rout. An eyewitness said, “One of our brothers and nephews went to the house where crackers were sold. During that time, an explosion occurred. We rushed to the hospital to inquire about the matter as soon as we got the information.”
