Baliguda: Two people died, while six others are critically ill after consuming jelly made from mango kernel in Mandipanka village under Gadapur panchayat in Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district.
According to reports, eight people fell critically ill after consuming a jelly prepared with mango kernel extract a few days back. They were admitted to Brahmani Community Health Center (CHH) where one woman succumbed to her ailment. Another young woman died in an ambulance while being shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
As the condition of the six other patients deteriorated, they were all shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
While the precise reason for the deaths is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that food poisoning after consumption of the jelly might have caused their illness.
Meanwhile, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling has ordered a judicial investigation into the death of two women after consumption of mango kernel. “The Health Department has initiated an investigation into the matter. Officials from the District Headquarters Hospital and Health Directorate have arrived on-site to assess the situation, with a medical team conducting detailed inquiries,” the minister said.
