Bhubaneswar: A medical aspirant was found hanging inside her hostel room of a coaching centre near Patia Square under Chandrasekharpur police limits, on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Kalyani Sahoo, a resident of Salipur in the Cuttack district.
As per the reports, the deceased girl was a Plus II second-year science student and preparing for the medical entrance examination at a private coaching centre. She was staying at a hostel being run by the coaching centre.
Much to everyone’s shock, Kalyani’s body was found hanging from the fan in her room under mysterious circumstances today. While the exact cause of death remains unknown, Kalyani’s family claimed she was suffering from depression due to extreme mental pressure from her coaching institute. The pressure had reportedly taken a toll on her mental health, pushing her to the edge.
Besides, Kalyani’s family claimed that she had previously disclosed instances of severe harassment and torture at the hands of her fellow hostel students. Despite Kalyani’s repeated pleas for help, the hostel and coaching centre authorities turned a blind eye to her plea.
On a tip-off, Chandrasekharpur police recovered the body of Kalyani and registered a case in this connection. Police will send the body for post-mortem following which reason behind her death can be ascertained.
The family of the deceased alleged that Kalyani was depressed due to excessive study pressure at the institute and demanded a thorough investigation into the matter.
