Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has extended the tenure of the Justice CR Dash Commission of Inquiry until January 31, 2025. Initially constituted for a two-month period, the commission’s term was set to end on November 22, 2024.
The commission, headed by Justice CR Dash, was appointed on September 22, 2024, to investigate cases and counter-cases involving allegations of misbehavior and assault between a woman and a serving army officer at Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
According to a notification issued by the Special Section of the Home Department on Friday (November 15), the inquiry is ongoing, necessitating an extension of the commission’s tenure.
“The inquiry is in progress and the tenure stipulated in the said Notification expires on 22.11.2024. Now, therefore, in exercise of powers conferred by Section-3 of The Orissa Commission of Inquiry Rules, 1979, read with Section-3 and sub-section (1) of Section 5 of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, the State Government do hereby make the following amendment in the said Notification, namely: In paragraph 3 of the above said Notification, for the words ‘within 60 days,’ the words ‘within 31st January, 2025,’ shall be substituted,” the notification stated.
