Cuttack: In a heartwarming tale of self-discovery and gratitude, Barsha Volpe, an Odia girl abandoned by her unwed mother at birth, has returned to her homeland after living in Italy for 12 years.
Barsha was adopted by an Italian couple, Enrico Volope and Patrizia Jarzotti, both doctor and engineer, who raised her as their own and provided her with a loving home and education. She is doing a good job in an Italian organisation with a handsome pay package.
During her visit to her old orphanage in Cuttack, Barsha recalled her past and expressed her gratitude towards her biological mother for leaving her at the hospital instead of abandoning her in a jungle or drainage. She also expressed her desire to meet her biological mother once in her life, saying that she would be emotional on that day.
“I don’t know what the situation was when an unwed mother gave birth to a child. At least she has not abandoned me in a jungle or drainage, she has left me in a hospital so that I was brought up at an orphanage. I must express my gratitude towards her,” she said.
“I have much love and respect for my biological mother. I want to meet her once in my life. I would be very emotional that day”, Barhsa said.
Even after spending years in a foreign country, Barsha still speaks clear Odia while recalling her past days. “Some of my friends have also gone for adoption. I have visited them. Some are settled in the US, Spain, and other countries. I feel very happy to meet them,” she said.
Despite being abandoned at birth, she has grown into a confident and compassionate individual who is grateful for the opportunities she has received. Her visit to her homeland has been an emotional journey, but one that has allowed her to reconnect with her roots and find closure.
During her visit, she met Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde and shared her experience in Italy.
