Bhubaneswar: A notorious criminal was brutally beaten to death by unidentified miscreants in the Sheragada police station area of Ganjam district on Wednesday night.
According to reports, the deceased, identified as Anant Patnaik had been operating his criminal empire for 15 years, with over 25 criminal cases registered against him in various police stations across the district. Despite efforts by the officers of 10 police stations to apprehend him, Patnaik had managed to evade arrest.
The incident occurred when Patnaik was riding a bike and was chased by some miscreants in a Bolero vehicle. The vehicle stopped in front of Patnaik’s bike, and the occupants dragged him onto the road, beating him severely. Patnaik suffered serious injuries, including head trauma, and died on the spot due to heavy bleeding.
Two others accompanying Patnaik on the bike fled the scene to save their lives and later informed the police.
The police have recovered Patnaik’s body and sent it to the Sheragada Health Centre.
Police launched an investigation into the incident. Two individuals have been detained and are being questioned.
