Bhubaneswar: Over the last three years, 233 migrant workers from Odisha have lost their lives while working in other states, informed Labour and Employees’ State Insurance Minister Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia.
The Minister shared this information in response to a question from Choudwar-Cuttack MLA Souvic Biswal in the Odisha Assembly on Tuesday.
Highlighting district-wise data, the Minister stated that Ganjam accounted for the highest number of fatalities, with 43 deaths, followed by Balangir district, which reported 26 deaths.
Of the total fatalities, 199 bodies were transported back to Odisha, with the state government incurring a total expense of ₹24,16,604 for the repatriation of mortal remains during this period, the Minister added.
