Sundargarh: The District Sessions Court in Sundargarh on Tuesday sentenced a 38-year-old man, Mahendra Naik, to life imprisonment for the murder of his 60-year-old aunt, Mutafa, in Rajgangpur.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000, with an additional six-month jail term in case of non-payment.
The verdict was delivered by District Sessions Judge Sikharani Ratho, who convicted Mahendra under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The incident occurred on November 16, 2019, in Hatimunda village under Rajgangpur police limits. Mahendra, harboring a grudge against his aunt over a previous dispute, entered her house and strangled her to death while she was alone.
Following a complaint, the Rajgangpur Police registered the case (No. 334/17.11.2019) under Section 302 of the IPC and initiated an investigation.
The prosecution, led by government counsel Dilip Kumar Murmu, presented the testimony of 25 witnesses and 20 documents as evidence. Based on the findings, the court convicted Mahendra and handed down the life sentence.
