Bhubaneswar: Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) suspended in-charge of Sartha police outpost Chandra Sekhar Mohanty on charges of dereliction of duty.
As per reports, Ajay Das, owner of a cloth store of Sartha village had filed a complaint with local police alleging his store was burglarized a few days ago. However, no action was taken, and the stolen items were not recovered.
On December 22, Ajay and his two sons picked up four youths Trilochan Pradhan, Satish Singh, Bhanu Pradhan, and Tapu Mohanty from their respective homes on suspicion of theft. They were taken to a nearby electric pole, where they were brutally beaten with iron rods and wooden sticks.
The suspects’ family members requested Mohanty to the stop unlawful practices and take action , Mohanty reported to have not paid heed to their pleas. One of them, Trilochan, died on the spot due to severe injuries, while the other three were critically injured and hospitalized.
The incident took place just 500 meters away from the police outpost.
Expressing concern over the matter, SP suspended Sartha police outpost in-charge, Chandrashekhar Mohanty, for dereliction of duty.
