Cuttack: Unable to bear the burden of losses incurred due to crop damage following unseasonal rains last month, yet another farmer ended his life on Sunday.

According to reports, Indrajit Chatoi (48), a farmer in Niali block of Odisha’s Cuttack district, succumbed to a major heart attack after his ready-to-harvest paddy crop was damaged by the unseasonal rain. Earlier, another farmer, Kailash Pradhan (75), also died of heart attack reportedly for the same reason.

Indrajit had visited his fields on Sunday and was stressed after witnessing the crop damage wondering how he would feed his family. On his return from the field, he had dinner and slept in his room. However, he did not wake up in the morning, despite being called by his family members.

Indrajit’s family members rushed him to a nearby medical facility where the doctor declared him brought dead.
