Bhubaneswar: A three-day national workshop on the New Education Policy-2020 kicked off today at Lokseva Bhavan. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond attended the programme and shared their insight.
The workshop aims to discuss the implementation of the policy in Odisha. Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the importance of creating sound infrastructure and quality education in the primary education sector. He announced that the state government has decided to implement the new policy from the next academic year, replacing the existing 10+2 system with a 5+3+3+4 structure.
Key features of the new policy include the opening of Kindergarten (KG) schools with a focus on pre-school education, and the establishment of Sishu Vatika schools to provide basic and numerical knowledge to children without pressure. The state government plans to create extensive infrastructure to support these initiatives.
The policy also emphasizes the use of technology in education, with teaching through technology becoming an integral part of the education system. Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the importance of the new policy in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a developed India.
Union Education Minister Pradhan stressed the need to incorporate the opinions of prominent educationists from Odisha in the preparation of the state’s curriculum. He emphasized the importance of including the state’s glorious history, heritage, and notable personalities in the curriculum.
State School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond noted that the new policy promotes multi-lingual education, along with the mother tongue, which will lead to significant changes in the state’s education sector.
The workshop is expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the New Education Policy 2020 in Odisha and explore ways to improve the state’s education system.
