Hundi Counting Of Majhighariani Temple In Rayagada Fetches Rs 94 Lakh Cash

Rayagada:  After a gap of nearly six months, the Hundi (a donation box) of Majhighariani temple in Rayagada town of this district was opened and donations given by devotees were counted today.

Cash of around Rs 94, 49, 054 was found in the donation box apart from gold weighing 93.01 grams, silver weighing 2.170 kilograms and seven foreign coins, informed Temple Management Committee member Radhakrushna Dalei.

The counting process, which lasted for over 10 hours, was conducted transparently. The counting process began at 10:30 am on Monday and continued till 9 pm. It was carried out in the presence of the temple management committee members, Tehsildar, Revenue Inspector and police officials. A total of 200 volunteers, including students and residents, were involved in the counting process.

“The temple management committee has decided to deposit the collected amount in the Union Bank’s main branch. The interest generated from this amount will be utilized for the development and maintenance of the temple, as well as for the convenience of devotees visiting the shrine. Besides, the interest amount will be spent for the treatment of ailing persons who are not able to bear their medical expenses”, added Dalei.
