Bhubaneswar: A total of Rs 45.28 crore has been disbursed to compensate for post-harvest crop losses affecting 2,07,887 plots across Odisha, according to an official press release.

Farmers had reported damages to 2,19,834 plots on the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Portal, of which 2,07,887 applications were approved after thorough scrutiny.

The post-harvest paddy crop suffered significant damage due to unseasonal rains in the third and fourth weeks of December.

Out of the state’s 6,794 gram panchayats, 3,065 reported crop damage, with 1,945 gram panchayats experiencing losses exceeding 25 percent.

Following government directives, the four insurance companies operating in Odisha expedited their assessments and have initiated compensation payments.

It is important to note that this compensation is exclusively for post-harvest losses caused by unseasonal rains. Meanwhile, the assessment of crop losses for the 2024 Kharif season is still underway and will be completed soon.

If the actual yield falls below the estimated yield, registered farmers will receive regular yield insurance compensation as per existing guidelines.
