Jharsuguda: The Jharsuguda Additional District & Sessions Court on Friday sentenced Prabin Dhurua to life imprisonment after convicting him for the murder of former Sambalpur University Vice Chancellor, Dhrubaraj Naik. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Dhurua.
The verdict was based on the statements of 22 witnesses and 32 documents presented before the court.
“Additional District & Sessions Court today convicted and sentenced Prabin Kumar Dhurua (24) of Sirisguda Kuanrmal under Laikera police limits to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 in the murder case of former Sambalpur University Vice Chancellor, Dhrubaraj Naik,” said Public Prosecutor Gangadhar Garnayak while speaking to reporters after the judgment.
Providing details of the case, Garnayak stated that Dhurua attacked Naik with an axe in front of the latter’s residence on June 27, 2021, leading to his death.
“The prosecution presented statements from 22 witnesses, 32 documents, and the axe used in the crime as evidence before the court,” Garnayak added.
