Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved the proposal to take up the following three works with an estimated cost of Rs 1,066.38 crore over a period of 6 years i.e. from FY 2025-26 to 2030-31 under the Dam Rehabilitation & Improvement Project-III with the assistance of the World Bank and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) funded under the Externally Aided Project.
Construction of additional spillway of Hirakud dam on the left dyke.
- Underwater, ground and aerial survey of distressed conditions of Hirakud dam and its rehabilitation measures.
- Automation of existing gates and proposed additional spillway gates of Hirakud Dam by using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system.
Construction of additional spillway of Hirakud Dam will ensure safe passage of additional flood. Further, the underwater, ground and aerial survey of distressed conditions, analysis with selection of state-of-the-art modern materials for rehabilitation measures using modern machineries and equipment and its videography will enhance the longevity of the dam.
Replacement of manual gate operation with remote operation system using SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) through DRIP-III under the supervision of national and international experts will help in better control and monitoring.
