Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote renewable energy in the state, the Odisha cabinet has approved amendments to the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022.

The Odisha government has introduced two key amendments to promote renewable energy in the state.

As per the amendments, renewable energy projects will now be exempt from 50 per cent of wheeling charges, a significant relief from the existing 25 per cent exemption.

However, for other renewable energy projects, the existing 25 per cent exemption on wheeling charges will continue to apply.

Previously, the installation of wind farms was prohibited within 1 km of residential areas with 10 or more houses. However, this rule has been amended under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India’s office memorandum dated 4-07-2024 and its revised guidelines.
