Bhubaneswar: More than 21,000 Anganwadi centres do not have their own buildings and over 31,000 Anganwadi centres lack electricity in Odisha.
This was revealed by Women & Child Development Minister Pravati Parida in the State Assembly in response to a written question from BJD MLA Arvind Mohapatra.
The Minister explained that there are a total of 74,192 Anganwadi centers in the state, with no sub-centers. Of these, 52,806 centers have their own buildings, 26,455 centers have boundary walls, all centers have water supply within 200 meters, and 42,736 centers have electricity.
However, over 31,000 centers do not have electricity and around 21,486 centers are operating without buildings. Additionally, 47,737 centers lack boundary walls.
To address the electricity shortage, funds are being provided to districts in phases, along with a security deposit to cover the cost of electricity from the nearest supply source.
The Minister also mentioned that while there are no immediate plans to build boundary walls, steps are being taken in phases to improve the infrastructure of Anganwadi centers.
