Baripada: The Special Fast Track POCSO Court here on Monday sentenced one Biju Bindhani (30) of Bhandan village under Badampahar police limits of Mayurbhanj district to undergo 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and pay a fine of Rs 10,000 after convicting him for raping a minor girl.
The court ruled that upon failure to pay the fine, Bindhani has to undergo RI for another six months. The court ordered the District Legal Services Authority to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the victim.
The court pronounced the sentence after examining the depositions of the witnessess, medical report and investigation by the police.
According to details of the case, on 10th of December 2023 while a minor girl had gone to pee near her house, Bindhani finding her alone had raped her. The victim upon reaching home narrated her ordeal to her family members.
Her family lodged a complaint at the Badampahar police station in this regard. On the basis of the complaint Badampahar police registered a case and recorded the statement of the victim. Following which accused Bindhani was arrested by the police and forwarded to court.
