Malkangiri: A Class X girl student from a government-run residential school in the Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district delivered a baby boy last evening.
The incident occurred after the student returned from her board examination and it is alleged that she delivered the baby at the school hostel.
According to reports, the girl returned to the hostel after taking her High School Certificate (HSC) exam on Monday. Upon her return, the hostel warden contacted her father and when her parents arrived at the hostel, they discovered that their daughter had given birth there.
Upon being informed, the Chitrakonda police arrived at the scene, rescued the girl, and transported her to the Chitrakonda Sub-Divisional Hospital for further medical care.
Meanwhile, the school headmaster has placed the blame on the hostel warden for the incident.
In response, the District Welfare Officer (DWO) has initiated an investigation into the matter.
