Bhubaneswar: In a grand display of devotion and spirituality, the Mahadeepa, a massive wicker oil lamp, was lit atop the Lord Shiva shrines at various temples in the wee hours of Thursday.
At the famous Akhandalamani temple in Bhadrak district, the Mahadeepa was raised at 4:35 am, after a night-long worship by devotees. The temple premises were abuzz with activity as thousands of devotees gathered to witness the sacred moment.
Similarly, at the revered Kapilash Temple in Dhenkanal, the Mahadeepa was raised at 4:30 am, amidst chanting of hymns and beating of drums. Devotees had gathered at the temple since midnight to catch a glimpse of the sacred lamp.
In Cuttack, the Mahadeepa was raised at 4:30 am at the famous Dhabaleswar temple, attracting a large crowd of devotees. The temple administration had made elaborate arrangements for the occasion, including security and medical facilities.
In Puri’s Loknath temple, Mahadeepa was lifted in the wee hours of Thursday.
