Bhubaneswar: A total of 80,000 ineligible beneficiaries have returned their ration cards, including about 4,500 government employees.
This was shared by the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, on Sunday.
The Minister thanked those who responded to the government’s appeal and returned their cards.
“I had asked people with higher incomes and government employees to return their ration cards and I am grateful to those who have followed this request,” he said.
Patra mentioned that every day, around 3,000 to 4,000 ineligible beneficiaries are surrendering their ration cards.
“This is a big success as people are returning their cards willingly,” he added.
The Minister also urged others who are still holding on to their cards to return them.
“Those with a monthly income of Rs 10,000 in rural areas and Rs 15,000 in urban areas should return their cards. No action will be taken at this moment. After the cards are returned, a verification process will follow,” he said.
