Bhubaneswar: Koraput and Malkangiri districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at isolated places on Wednesday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow warning for the two districts.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely at isolated places in Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam districts on October 21, while dry weather is expected across the rest of the state, the IMD said in its midday weather bulletin issued on Tuesday.
The weather is likely to remain dry across Odisha from October 21 to 26, barring the forecast of isolated rainfall in several districts on October 27. Rain or thundershowers may occur at isolated places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts on that day.
The IMD has forecast no significant change in maximum and minimum temperatures across the state over the next six to seven days.
Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Thailand and adjoining areas of Thailand and Myanmar is likely to move into the north Andaman Sea by Wednesday morning. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around October 23 and subsequently move northwestwards, intensifying further, the bulletin said.
A trough extending from the cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast to north coastal Andhra Pradesh persists at 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Light to moderate rainfall was recorded at isolated places in Baleshwar, Ganjam, Kandhamal and Rayagada districts on Tuesday morning, while dry weather prevailed elsewhere in the state. Bhograi in Baleshwar district recorded the highest rainfall of 5 cm, followed by 1 cm each at Buguda in Ganjam and Kotagarh in Kandhamal.
Jharsuguda recorded the highest maximum temperature of 34.6 degrees Celsius and the lowest minimum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius among the plains of Odisha.
For Bhubaneswar, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 33 and 24 degrees Celsius, respectively.
No weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for October 20-24.
