Bhubaneswar: A wild elephant was found dead at Kamakhyanagar in Dhenkanal forest range on Monday morning.
According to forest officials, the elephant had migrated from the Joranda area about five days ago. The elephant reportedly died due to injuries sustained during a fight with another elephant.
Upon being informed, Forest Department officials recovered the carcass of the 30-year-old male tusker near Jamujhara village under the Kamakhyanagar forest section in the western part of the Dhenkanal forest division.
It is learnt that a herd of around 14 elephants was spotted in the area recently. Meanwhile, Forest officials are investigating the cause of the fight that led to the elephant’s death.
