Bhubaneswar: As many as 375 buses are currently operational in Bhubaneswar and its surrounding areas. Unfortunately, 16 persons have died in accidents involving Mo Bus, informed the Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.
Mahapatra’s reply came in response to a query raised by BJD MLA Ananta Narayan Jena about the safety features and speed limits of the Mo Buses being run by Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
Responding to the queries, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krishan Chandra Mahapatra stated that 375 buses are currently operational in Bhubaneswar and its surrounding areas. Unfortunately, 16 lives have been lost in accidents involving Mo Bus.
Regarding safety measures, the Minister informed that speed governors have been installed in the buses to regulate speed. The speed limit for electric buses within city limits is 35 km/h, while diesel buses are allowed to travel at 40 km/h. Additionally, 16 buses operating on national highways are permitted to travel at 50 km/h.
The government has also provided compensation to the families of the deceased, with a total of Rs. 2,94,87,200 disbursed since 2019.
