Rayagada: Rayagada police arrested six persons on charges of smuggling ganja from Bissam Cuttack to Koraput on Friday. Police also seized 660 kg of ganja, along with a pickup van, an I-20 car, and a pistol from their possession.
The arrested accused are Reddy Amala Raj, Reddy Abhinash, Reddy Anand, Ranjit Karakaria, Mujabul Haque Ali, and A Binod Kumar. While one of the accused hails from Bishamcuttack, two are from Koraput, and three are from the Rayagada Sadar area.
It is learnt that the ganja was being transported from Bishamcuttack to Koraput when police intercepted the pick-up van and seized the ganja in the presence of Deputy Collector and sent the ganja to Rayagada police station.
The estimated value of the seized ganja is approximately Rs 31 lakh.
