Over 2.6K Villages In Odisha Still Lacking Mobile Connectivity: Minister

Bhubaneswar: More than 2,600 villages in Odisha still lack mobile connectivity, as informed by Electronics and Information Technology Minister Mukesh Mahaling in the state assembly on Monday.

In a written response to a question by BJD MLA Ramesh Chandra Behera, Minister Mukesh Mahaling revealed that 2,603 villages in the state, out of a total of 51,176, still do not have access to mobile networks.

The Minister also mentioned that under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) project, a collaboration between the Government of India and the Odisha government, there is a proposal to install approximately 4,210 mobile towers to provide connectivity to all villages in the state.

Currently, 2,572 mobile towers are operational.

He further stated that the target has been set to make all mobile towers operational in Odisha by June 2025.
