Bhubaneswar: The scorching heat is finally going to take a break, thanks to the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) prediction of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the state. The maximum temperature is expected to drop by 3-5 degrees Celsius over the next two days, bringing much-needed relief to the people.
This respite from the heat is all due to the onset of Kalabaisakhi (a nor’wester rain system). Kalabaisakhi is a meteorological phenomenon characterized by sudden weather changes, strong winds, and thunderstorms that occur in India during April and May.
With the rain and thunderstorms, people can expect a significant drop in temperature, making the weather more pleasant.
For March 20-21, the regional weather office has issued an orange warning for several districts, including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected. A yellow warning has also been issued for Sambalpur, Deogarh, Boudh, Angul, and Jajpur districts.
For March 21-22, an orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts, with thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds likely. A yellow warning has been issued for several other districts, including Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Sonepur.
