Puri: The ‘Maha Snana’ ritual was performed at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri after a servitor sustained injuries on Saturday.
The injured servitor has been identified as Krishnachandra Apat, a resident of Balisahi in Puri district.
According to reports, a Pani Apata servitor fell near the ‘Bhitar Katha,’ resulting in injuries to his hands and feet, which caused bleeding.
As a result, both the general darshan and the ‘Gopala Ballabh’ ritual were delayed by two hours.
Bloodstains were noticed near the ‘Bhitar Katha’ after the servitor fell. In response, other servitors immediately performed the ‘Maha Snana’ ritual to purify the temple.
Following this, the remaining rituals proceeded and the general darshan was reopened to the public.
The injured servitor was initially taken to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Due to the critical nature of his injuries, he was later transferred to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
The temporary closure of the temple for two hours due to the incident led to a heavy influx of devotees. The police successfully managed and controlled the crowd at all four temple gates.
