Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government today revealed that a significant disparity exists in caesarean delivery rates between private and government hospitals in Odisha.

According to Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling in the Assembly, a staggering 81.06% of deliveries in private hospitals were surgical in 2023-24. As many as 113,598 out of 140,126 deliveries were performed through caesarean sections.

In contrast, government hospitals reported a caesarean delivery rate of 33.08% in 2023-24, with 1,95,578 out of 5,91,185 deliveries. The trend is consistent with the previous year’s data, which showed a caesarean delivery rate of 77.46% in private hospitals and 30.73% in government hospitals.

The data suggests that private hospitals in Odisha have a significantly higher caesarean delivery rate compared to government hospitals.
