Bhubaneswar: The Ministry of Rural Development has taken a significant step towards enhancing rural connectivity and boosting economic growth in Odisha and Tripura by sanctioning several road and bridge projects under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).
In Odisha, 26 new roads covering 63.271 kilometers and two long-span bridges are being built at a cost of Rs. 69.65 crore. This builds upon the existing infrastructure, with 66 roads spanning 211.14 kilometers and four long-span bridges previously approved at a cost of Rs. 219.40 crore.
Similarly, in Tripura, 25 roads covering 84.352 kilometers have been sanctioned with an investment of Rs 76.47 crore, following an earlier approval of 42 roads spanning 118.756 kilometers at a cost of Rs. 114.32 crore.
These projects aim to provide all-weather road connectivity to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) habitations, improving socio-economic conditions and fostering economic development. The initiative will also enhance access to essential services like healthcare, education, and markets, creating employment opportunities and aligning with the government’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) ¹ ².
The PM-JANMAN scheme focuses on providing basic facilities to 75 PVTG communities across 18 states and one union territory, with a total budgetary outlay of Rs. 24,104 crore. The initiative includes 11 critical interventions implemented by nine ministries, covering aspects such as safe housing, clean drinking water, education, health, nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, electrification, and sustainable livelihood opportunities
