Paradip: The Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters (Odisha) conducted a two-day State-Level Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR) Workshop on April 8–9, 2025, bringing together key stakeholders from across Odisha.
The workshop witnessed participation from various agencies including the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Port Authorities, Department of Fisheries, CISF, Odisha State Police, Marine Police, Forest Department, and private resource agencies operating within the state.
As the nodal agency responsible for executing and coordinating Search and Rescue (SAR) operations within the Indian Maritime Search and Rescue Region (ISRR), the Indian Coast Guard organized this workshop to review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), enhance inter-agency coordination, and strengthen preparedness for maritime SAR missions.
The workshop was inaugurated by DIG Sanjay Negi, Commander, Coast Guard District Odisha. In his address, he welcomed all participants and underscored the importance of such initiatives in improving awareness of the roles, response mechanisms, and rescue capabilities of resource agencies across the state. He also highlighted how these engagements foster synergy, enabling more effective collaborative responses during maritime emergencies and ultimately aiding in the preservation of life and property at sea.
The first day of the workshop featured detailed presentations and discussions on maritime SAR operations, agency-specific capabilities, and the latest technological advancements in the field.
On the second day, a Table-Top Exercise was conducted to provide stakeholders with hands-on understanding of planning processes and coordinated execution strategies for effective maritime search and rescue operations.
