Bhubaneswar: A change in weather pattern is expected in Odisha with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting temperatures to drop below 40°C in various districts, especially in Western Odisha, till May 1.
As per the IMD forecast, the maximum temperature is expected to decrease by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.
On Sunday, temperature drops were observed in various places, with Jharsuguda recording 35°C, Boudh at 32.8°C, Balangir at 35.5°C, Titlagarh at 34.5°C, Sambalpur at 34.4°C, and Hirakud at 32.7°C. In contrast, some cities experienced a slight increase in temperature, with Bhubaneswar reaching 38.1°C and Cuttack recording 35.4°C.
On Sunday, Balasore recorded 32.4°C, Rourkela recorded 31.2°C, Deogarh had a temperature of 32.6°C, and Daringbadi recorded 29.5°C.
According to IMD prediction, a low-pressure system and westerly winds are expected to bring thunderstorms and gusty winds to various parts of the state till May 1, with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph in some areas. The Kalbaisakhi effect will likely lead to lightning, thunderstorms, and rainfall in several districts.
The weather department has issued an alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha over the next 24 hours. The affected districts include Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sambalpur.
These districts are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. Wind speeds may reach 50-60 kmph, and hailstorms are also possible in some areas.
That apart, the regional weather office has issued a yellow warning for several districts such as Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri, predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
