Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a ‘Yellow’ warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds likely to affect several districts of Odisha on May 7.
According to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin, gusty winds with speeds reaching 40–50 kmph are likely during afternoon and evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kendujhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam. Winds at 30–40 kmph are expected in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, and Sundargarh.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are also likely over one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bargarh, and Sundargarh. Dry weather is expected elsewhere in the state.
In addition, the IMD has warned of hot and humid conditions likely to prevail at one or two places across Odisha between May 9 and 11.
There will be no major change in day temperatures over the next two days, but a rise of 2–4°C is expected thereafter across the state.
