Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is spearheading comprehensive preparations for a civil defence mock drill aimed at safeguarding lives and property during potential aerial attacks in a war-like scenario.
Under the leadership of BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, the initiative focuses on equipping residents with essential self-protection skills.
Khordha District Collector Chanchal Rana conducted a thorough review of the preparations today at BMC’s Integrated Command Control Centre. The drill, designed to simulate an enemy attack, will train citizens on safety measures, such as seeking shelter and responding swiftly to emergencies.
Rana held discussions with officials to ensure rapid response mechanisms and seamless communication systems during a crisis, emphasizing inter-agency coordination.
To support the public, a 24-hour control room has been established at the BMC office, with residents encouraged to contact 1929 for assistance. “Our goal is to ensure the public is well-prepared and vigilant, adhering to government guidelines,” Rana stated during the review. He also conducted a video conference with medical, fire services, civil defence, and other departmental officers to align efforts for the drill.
The preparations reflect Bhubaneswar’s proactive approach to civil defence amid heightened national security concerns. Key attendees included BMC Additional Commissioner Subhendu Kumar Sahu, Additional District Collector Rudranarayan Mahanty, Saflaymandit Pradhan, and Bhubaneswar Sub-Collector Manoranjan Sahu.
The mock drill underscores BMC’s commitment to public safety, ensuring the city is ready to respond effectively to any potential threat.
