Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths apprehended Niranjan Dhal, Executive Officer of NAC of Khandapada in Nayagarh district, while demanding and receiving a bribe amount of Rs 20,000 from a contractor in his residential quarter to facilitate the release of a bill in favour of the complainant.
According to reports, the contractor had approached the Vigilance authorities after being harassed by Dhal, who was demanding a bribe in exchange for processing bills for completed work and facilitating measurements for another project.
A trap was set by the Vigilance team, which led to Dhal’s arrest while accepting the bribe. The entire bribe amount of Rs. 20,000 has been recovered from Dhal’s possession and seized by the Vigilance team.
A case has been registered against Dhal under Section 7 PC Amendment Act 2018 at the Bhubaneswar Vigilance PS (Case No. 08/2025).
The Vigilance team is currently conducting simultaneous searches at five locations linked to Dhal to gather further evidence. The investigation is ongoing, and Dhal’s alleged corrupt practices are being probed.
